UP to Develop AYUSH Hospitals into Research Hubs

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major initiative to convert selected AYUSH hospitals into research-oriented hubs, aiming to elevate the state’s traditional medicine system onto a global stage. Under the plan, AYUSH facilities will expand beyond clinical care to undertake systematic, data-driven research on serious and lifestyle-related diseases, including cancer, diabetes, heart ailments, hypertension, thyroid disorders, joint issues and mental health.

To support this transformation, the state is in discussions to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with central research institutes. These collaborations are expected to provide modern laboratory infrastructure, technical training for AYUSH practitioners and research personnel, and standardised protocols for treatment validation.

The government’s objective is to establish scientific evidence validating AYUSH therapies, thereby enhancing their credibility and acceptance both nationally and internationally. Additionally, the initiative is anticipated to generate new opportunities for researchers, educators and students within the AYUSH sector.

Officials say the research hubs will integrate traditional and modern medical knowledge to promote preventive health care and long-term well-being, aligning Uttar Pradesh with global healthcare research standards.
