Ayush Ministry, WHO Expand Global Traditional Medicine

The Ministry of Ayush has significantly strengthened global footprint of traditional medicine systems in India. The ministry signed 25 bilateral MoUs with partner countries to enhance international cooperation in traditional and homoeopathic medicine. Additionally, 15 MoUs were inked with foreign institutes to establish Ayush Academic Chairs, and 52 institute-to-institute agreements were finalised to promote research, education, and academic exchange in Ayush systems worldwide.

In a parallel global development, the World Health Organisation (WHO) launched the Traditional Medicine Global Library during the 2nd WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit held in New Delhi from December 17 to 19, 2025. This new digital resource brings together over 1.6 million records, including scientific publications, databases, and evidence maps on traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine from across WHO’s Member States, offering policymakers, health professionals, researchers and the public a comprehensive, structured platform for traditional medicine knowledge.

The combined efforts reflect a growing global recognition of traditional medicine’s role in health systems. The Ayush ministry’s international outreach and the WHO’s knowledge platform aim to foster evidence-based practice, equitable access to information, and integration of traditional medical systems into public health agendas worldwide.
